Happy Fourth!

I had a Chris sighting!

As a matter of fact, he started this post when he returned last Wednesday from the Cloudcroft, New Mexico fire but didn’t have time to finish before he left again for the Snake River, Idaho fire.

BUT—in the few days he was home, we enjoyed each other’s company! There was lots of bike ridin’ through the beautiful countryside.

A bike ride to our favorite just-out-of-town nursery…the one that was closed  :( …the one with CLEARLY posted hours of operation…  :(  :(

There was beer…nearly always a clear Chimay for Chris and something crisp and local for me.

I gave Chris his July 4th present early because I had a sneaking suspicion he wouldn’t get to stay through today, what with all those overzealous firecracker enthusiasts running ‘round our dry-and-fire-ready countryside…you know, the ones who aren’t getting their Smokey on.

I happened upon the free Fourth of July subway art download from the planet’s most creative sisters over at http://eighteen25.blogspot.com/. I had it printed as a 16×20 poster from Walmart for just over $10 and stuck it in an empty frame we already had.

The Fourth of July is one of our favorite holidays and this print definitely adds a patriotic-yet-sophisticated pop to our walls. Chris LOVES it. :)

And then…all too soon…he was heading off again to fight the flames.

Wishing a Happy (and safe!) Fourth of July to everyone! And remember: freedom is never free. Hug a patriot—they deserve our thanks.

Never thought I would have a nephew fighting fire, following in the footsteps of his incredible Auntie!
